So Much to Celebrate! 02/15/2010
15 Comments

Spring 2010 presents a number of major mileposts for Reverend Aaron Johnson. In addition to the release of his memoir, Aaron is celebrating 50 years as an ordained minister, 50 years since his graduation from Shaw University Divinity School, 50 years of marriage to the former Mattie Miller, and 50 years since participating in the lunch counter sit-ins in downtown Raleigh.

Friends and fans of Aaron's are invited to a reception honoring these events at his former church, Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in Fayetteville, NC, on April 10, 2 p.m.

Whether or not you can make the celebration, we invite you to share your congratulations, memories, and other thoughts here. We'll collect them to present to Aaron this spring. Click on Comments (above, in blue) and add yours.

Brother Johnson,

I consider it a great honor to be counted as one who has known and traveled with you. I have so many wonderful memories. One that stands out in my mind has to do with our trip to Oregon and your bewilderment at how those cows could stand sideways on the steep mountains. Fun to think of the phrase "mountain cow" that we coined on that blustery and raining trip!

Blessings to you and yours,

I would like to say that I'm so happy and blessed to know this man as my childhood pastor as a young man growing up @ Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church-Fayetteville, NC. As a child growing up, I can remember his powerful sermons from the puplit and his civic work in the community.

Rev. Johnson, you will always be my pastor and I praise God for the lives you have touched with your love, joy, and ministry.

The Blessings of the Lord Be Upon You

We pray for their safe trip home today.

Rev. Johnson, truly many mile stones have been passed. Fifty years of faithful service as a pastor equipping the saints and tending the flock is remarkable. Our churches today need strong men of God, like yourself, who will stand on the Word and stand in the gap. May God bless you as you continue serving HIm and my He use your book to re-kindle fires of evangelism to the ends of the earth.

One of the great blessings in my life has been knowing, observing, and working along side Rev. Aaron Johnson. His example of courage derived from faith, his wisdom, beginning in the fear of the Lord and extending from his breadth of experience, and his compassion, arising from the depth of his soul, have not only demonstrated his Christian character, but have served as an inspiration for me and for all who have known him, and, now, for all who read his life story of “service, struggle, faith, and hope.”

Dr. Johnson, congratulations on 50 years of ministerial service and the publishing of your book,"Man From Macedonia". You probably won't remember me, but I relocated here from Washington, DC, 10 plus years ago. I attended your church and met you and you were kind enough to have several conversations with me. During that time you prayed for me and helped get one of your members to assist me with housework for a while. I shall always be grateful to you for your prayers and kindness. May your book, which I will purchase a copy, be a bestseller and may you continue to be blessed with a long and enjoyable life for all you have done for all people.

Few, if any, will ever really know the outpouring of God's unconditional love and mercy this man brought to the darkest and most abandoned-forsaken place of Central Prison's health care system. All I can say about him is:
